Abstract
The first menstrual cycle or menarche is the final reproductive milestone of puberty following breast development and the growth of pubic and axillary hair. Menopause is defined as the final menstrual cycle in a woman’s life and is preceded by a transition period consisting of irregular menstrual cycles and intermittent menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. Menopausal symptoms may be treated by hormone replacement whose use has generated controversy.
