Abstract

Demographic, psychologic, social, and medical characteristics of 327 patients in a general medical clinic who were judged in need of psychiatric treatment were compared with those of 371 patients who were judged not in need of such treatment. Significant differences were found in such factors as age, sex, family relationships, history of treatment for “nerves,” and scores on the Hopkins Symptom Checklist.
