Abstract
Retinol is the natural form of vitamin A. In recent years, there has been great interest in the use of topical retinol to reduce the signs of aging skin (ie, wrinkles and dyspigmentation). Products containing retinol are limited to cosmetics; however, depending on the concentration of retinol present, these cosmetic products are capable of delivering the beneficial effects in human skin. This article describes the metabolism and molecular mechanism of action of retinol in human skin in vivo.
