Abstract

A competing risks life table analysis of IUD termination in 167 women using the Lippes Loop and 407 women using the Dalkon Shield from a predominantly Black cohort in Washington, D.C. is presented. Parous Loop D users had a significantly greater 12-month gross risk of medical removals than the parous Standard size shield users (26.2/100 women vs. 11.6/100 women, p < .05). Comparisons with results of other studies are made.
