Abstract
A thermodynamic study of local ordering in amphiphilic chain fluids based on the sphere-and-bond formalism of Kuespert and Donohue [Langmuir 9, 431 (1993)] is presented using the Flory equation for entropy of mixing and the mean-field approximation for fluid energy. After introducing general equations, a model of an amphiphile chain dissolved in a monomeric solvent is derived and its bulk and microphase equilibria are investigated.
