N1 - Funding Information: I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners of the 2000 AstraZeneca-sponsored Writing Competition for Residents and Fellows, whose papers were published in UROLOGY. In 2000, 101 manuscripts were submitted/first-authored by residents or fellows in Urology. The Section and Associate Editors voted for the top three papers. Honoraria of $6000 (made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from AstraZeneca) will be divided among the award winners. First prize was awarded to Misop Han, M.D. of Johns Hopkins for the manuscript entitled “A Neural Network Predicts Progression for Men with Gleason Score 3+4 versus 4+3 Tumors After Radical Prostatectomy” (UROLOGY 56: 994–999, 2000). Second prize was awarded to Daniel S. Engeler, M.D. of the University of Zurich for the manuscript entitled “Early Orchiopexy: Prepubertal Intratubular Germ Cell Neoplasia and Fertility Outcome” (UROLOGY 56: 144–148, 2000). Third prize was awarded to Amr Fergany, M.D. of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for the manuscript entitled “No Difference in Biochemical Failure Rates With or Without Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection During Radical Prostatectomy in Low-Risk Patients” (UROLOGY 56: 92–95, 2000). We are also excited to announce that AstraZeneca, sponsor of this essay contest, has recently announced their continued support of the awards for 2001 and urge residents/fellows to submit manuscripts for this contest. The Editorial Board joins me in congratulating these young investigators and in thanking AstraZeneca for their continued support of The Gold Journal.
