Abstract

The authors developed a least-mean-square estimation method to assess the parameters of a model of the chest wall. The chest wall was modeled as the combination of a spring, a mass, and a dashpot. The method was verified by estimating the parameters of a known cyclically compressed spring loaded with different masses. Because accuracy of the parameter identification was satisfactory, the method can be applied to estimation of parameters of the human chest.
