Abstract
There is consensus that laser trabeculoplasty is an appropriate intervention between initial medical treatment and filtration surgery in some cases. The short-term risk of laser trabeculoplasty is low when performed by an experienced ophthalmologist. In patients in whom the intraocular pressure may be poorly controlled, filtration surgery may have been deferred because the progress of visual loss was slow or difficult to discern. In such patients, laser trabeculoplasty is often recommended.
