Abstract

A properly designed and administered laser safety control program can dramatically reduce the probability of serious laser-related injury. Such a program would include a mixture of engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protection devices, appropriately chosen by the laser safety officer with every effort to avoid needless duplication. The proposed revised control measures section of the ANSI Z136. 1 standard recommends a detailed control measure program that is compatible with the existing federal laser product performance standard.
