Abstract

Migraine commonly affects the general population. Despite medical advances, including lifestyle modification, pharmacologic therapies, and interventional procedures, effective treatment for migraine remains challenging. Migraine can be divided into four phases, prodrome, aura, headache phase, and postdrome, illustrating that it is more than just a headache. Patients with fewer than 15 headache days per month are classified as having episodic migraine. However, if the patient experiences headaches on 15 or more days per month, for over 3months, with at least eight of those days being migraines, they are diagnosed with chronic migraine. Migraine is recognized as the second leading cause of disability. Evolving interventional procedures play a critical role in migraine treatment algorithms currently and in the future.
