Abstract
A case of intrarenal arteriovenous fistula following percutaneous renal biopsy documented by pre- and postoperative selective renal arteriogram has been studied. Massive hematuria, severe flank pain, and clinical deterioration developed, and the patient required immediate surgical intervention. Intrarenal surgical repair of the fistula resulted in the full preservation of renal parenchyma. A review of the literature indicates that the majority of such cases have resulted in nephrectomy, which would have been undesirable in this case, because of renal lupus erythematosus.
