Abstract
Massive hemoptysis may be a life-threatening event. Death can quickly ensue from aspiration of blood and subsequent asphyxiation or, less commonly, exsanguination. Bronchoscopy during active bleeding can often identify the site of hemorrhage. This may require immediate pulmonary resection. Percutaneous catheter embolization offers an alternative to surgery in selected cases, particularly where there is overwhelming surgical risk or underlying disease. We report a case of successful steel coil embolization of a pulmonary artery aneurysm with preservation of distal pulmonary artery circulation.
