Abstract
Back in 1952, Bloch (in Stanford) and Purcell (in Harvard) received the Nobel Prize in physics for "their development of new methods for nuclear magnetic precision measurements and discoveries in connection therewith. "Five decades later magnetic resonance occupies a central place in natural science and has evolved into an essential tool in diagnostic radiology. The development of different acquisition techniques as well as the development of different configured MR scanners contributed to the impressive development of medical MR imaging over the last several years. And in interventional radiology, MR imaging has begun to play a more and more important role. Interventional MR imaging is a methodology whereby MR imaging is used to guide therapeutic procedures.
