title = "Integrative modeling of cardiac arrhythmia: Relating gene expression to cell and tissue function",
abstract = "The development and analysis of biophysically and anatomically detailed computational models of physiological systems is beginning to provide an important tool for relating changes in gene expression to changes in biological function at the levels of cell and tissue in both health and disease. Computational modeling demonstrates that the altered expression of genes coding proteins involved in intracellular Ca2+ handling plays a key role in prolonging the action potential duration (APD) and increasing the likelihood of early after-depolarization known to occur in failing myocytes and may trigger reentrant arrhythmias at the level of the whole heart.",
