Abstract
In the summer of 2018 the Learning and Education Subcommittee of the Grand Challenges Executive Committee (GCEC) of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) designed and conducted a survey of deans and directors of CSWE training programs. The purpose was to investigate the integration of the 12 Grand Challenges of Social Work and Society (GCSW) into social work curricula at all levels to inform subsequent actions of the GCEC. Survey Monkey was used to solicit data from all 493 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited programs of social work in the United States (BSW, MSW, MSS, PhD, and DSW). The survey included 11 questions and was estimated to take less than five minutes to complete. There were 107 responses or a 21.7% response rate. An a posteriori method of data analysis was employed to review the qualitative comments. The results indicate that 90% of the responding social work training programs want more education, training, and assistance on the GCSW. Respondent organizations felt this assistance should be delivered in the forms of webinars, conferences, technical assistance, technical consultation, and support for curriculum design.
