Abstract

This chapter reviews infectious enteritis and proctocolitis. General information on infectious diarrheal diseases, including host predisposition, diagnosis, and therapy, are presented, as well as guidance on distinguishing infectious colitis from inflammatory bowel disease. Key topics include enterotoxigenic and invasive bacteria, sexually transmitted proctitis, viral diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, and TB of the GI tract.
