Abstract

Infections are the most frequent complications of antineoplastic chemotherapy, and are facilitated by mucositis and neutropenia, both common side-effects of antineoplastic agents. The present paper addresses the principles of the use of hematopoietic growth factors in this indication, considering their primary and secondary use and discussing other possible indications.
