N2 - In this paper we describe a fast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that can be used to measure the evolution of three-dimensional myocardial strains in multiple stacks of left-ventricular short axis (SA) slices. The SA slices are selectively tagged with planes of magnetic saturation. The MR data is then acquired using a fast imaging technique that combines the principles of previously demonstrated harmonic phase (HARP) and strain encoded (SENC) imaging methodologies to measure the in-plane circumferential and radial strains, and the out-of-plane longitudinal strains in two short breath-holds. Strain measurements in eight regions at representative time frames in five SA slices in a normal volunteer are presented.
