Imaging the Anatomic Landmarks for Safe FESS

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery has been practiced worldwide for the past thirty years following the principles established by Messerklinger, Stammberger, Kennedy, and others who have focused this procedure in the stepwise resection of the four ground lamellae [1–3] (Fig. 24.1a–c). This regional anatomy is diverse and varies from person to person. In spite of the technical advances in imaging technology and image guided surgery (IGS) understanding the endoscopically viewed surgical field remains a challenge.
