Abstract
Idiopathic neonatal hepatitis (INH) is a diagnosis of exclusion. The definition of INH is simply inflammation and cholestasis in the liver in an infant <3 months of age for which a diagnosis cannot be found (Childhood liver disease research and education network. http://www.childrennetwork.org/physicians/inh.html). Thus, this chapter is written mainly from the perspective of the differential diagnosis of the three different clinical presentations of INH: neonatal acute liver failure, transient cholestasis with resolution, and chronic cholestasis.
