Although it is reasonable to assume that the pathological and clinical features of poisonings with different petroleum derivates or with the same derivative supplied by another producer would differ, such poisonings are usually remarkably similar. However, subtle differences do occur. Unfortunately, these differences have not been adequately studied. Consequently, much of the information contained herein is pieced together from studies of poisonings due to individual products and not from comparative studies. The authors can only hope that the extrapolations that have been made previously and that are made in this article will ultimately prove to be correct.
