Abstract
To the Editor: An article by Sanfilippo and coworkers (July 3, 1986, issue)1 presented important information about the role of HLA-A and B matching in reducing the number of episodes of reaction after corneal transplantation in high-risk patients. However, we are concerned that this article and the accompanying editorial, which stated that “high-risk patients should not have to receive corneal grafts from donors with a poor histocompatibility match,”2 may lead to the general assumption that prospective HLA matching should be adopted as the standard of care for all high-risk patients receiving corneal transplants. The study of matching for HLA Class.
