Abstract
This chapter looks at the current evidence for HIV/AIDS prevention. Approximately 1.7 million people become infected with HIV each year. Despite tremendous improvements in access to care and treatment for infected individuals, effective prevention is urgently needed to reverse the extraordinary toll on human life and public health worldwide due to HIV. There is a need for evidence-based, combination prevention including biomedical, behavioural, and structural interventions.
