Abstract
Prevention of unintentional injury has long been an important role for pediatricians. In the United States and elsewhere, there have been many successful efforts, almost all of which have required advocacy, outreach, and multidisciplinary collaboration at various levels. The objective is to summarize key historical events along this trajectory, highlighting the people and tools that have been pivotal in the advancement of primary and secondary injury prevention strategies. The efforts highlighted in this article are not all-encompassing but are meant to provide a representative sample from which the reader can draw conclusions to inform future efforts.
