Abstract

From the events that have unfolded during just the first decade of the new millennium - new and emerging disease threats, environmental disasters, increasing and shifting conflict and aggression, economic stress around the world - it is clear that we have much to attend to and even more to anticipate and understand. At the same time, we have seen advances in health and public health sciences, an energized culture of giving, and expanded activity by the citizen sector, all coupled with a new and transformative focus and level of action on advancing global public health.
