note = "Funding Information: The purpose ofestablishing these Centers is to improve communication and coordination between infectious disease research and training centers in the Americas. Award nominations must be from a Latin American director who is a Member or Fellow of IDSA and must be received before the annual IDSA meeting. The Centers will be supported by IDSA for 3 years by grants from Roche Laboratories and Merck. Centers will receive paid subscriptions to The Journal ofInfectious Diseases. Clinical Infectious Diseases. and two American Society for Microbiology journals. Centers will also receive travel funds for two infectious disease trainees to attend the IDSA annual meeting. Trainees will be selected by the Center director. The budget is \$5000/ center/year (\$2000 per trip. including registration fee, \$250 for journals, and \$250 for local administration). Priorities for awards will be given to programs in Brazil. programs with full-time infectious diseases faculty, programs with an existing training component, programs that have not received a previous award, and two or more groups (within or between various countries) who collaborate to create training centers of excellence. Applications are due I September 1992 for consideration for the following year (I January 1993 start date). Applications will be distributed to a subcommittee ofIDSA's International Affairs Committee (lAC) who will rank them and recommend awardees to the full Committee and then to Council. The award will be made by the Council.",
