Abstract

Flucytosine is an effective drug in experimental crytococcosis and candidiasis but clinical experience has encountered excessive failures, many of which are traceable to drug resistence. Additional of low dosage amphotericin B has largely solved the problem of drug resistence but has encountered flucytosine toxicity to bone marrow and intestine. Careful monitoring of flucytosine blood levels is essential in patients with azotemia due to amphotericin B.
