Abstract
A 43-year-old Kuwaiti man with a history of β-thalassemia intermedia was diagnosed with lymph node-positive sigmoid adenocarcinoma and underwent left hemicolectomy. He had multiple paraspinal masses and a right middle lobe lung nodule on CT scan. F-18 FDG PET/CT imaging revealed intense metabolic activity within the pulmonary nodule and subsequent biopsy revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma. The PET/CT scan also revealed mild to moderate FDG activity in multiple paraspinal thoracic masses. MRI findings were most consistent with multiple sites of extramedullary hematopoiesis.
