Abstract
Based on our small series of 59 patients, we feel that polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts, possessing characteristics unique to this material, may prove very useful in extraanatomic vascular procedures. In poor-risk patients with markedly ischemic limbs, 60 bypasses resulted in 100 per cent patency with good and fair runoffs over a two year period of follow-up and 46.4 per cent patency in poor runoff cases followed for over 18 months. The short-term results, we feel, warrant further clinical trials with this material.
