note = "Funding Information: As I take over the Editor-in-Chief position from Dr. Sid Gilman, I want to thank him for his 10 years of leadership and the important contributions he made to the journal by expanding its scope, readership and impact in the field of neuroscience. Experimental Neurology was established in 1959 under the leadership of Dr. William F. Windle of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Blindness with the goal of “publishing excellent research using experimental methods with an emphasis on basic neurological sciences” ( Windle, 1959 ). The founding editors clearly did not want to publish simply descriptive studies. This emphasis on scientific excellence has been supported by successive editors and the journal saw its greatest impact on the field during Sid Gilman{\textquoteright}s tenure.
