Abstract

The effectiveness of 2-thiol-proprionamido-acetic acid, a new mucolytic drug, was assessed in children and young adults with chronic obstructive lung disease, due to cystic fibrosis. Bronchial secretions were more easily cleared during intensive use of the drug, both by inhalation and by I.V. route: postural drainage was more effective; small airways obstruction was decreased. The use of 2-thiol-propionamido-acetic acid was of definite value by I.V. route, as well: this new kind of mucolytic treatment can be easily associated to other intensive treatment programs, using the same I.V. route.
