Abstract

A discussion covers the assessment of the fatigue and risk associated with 12 hr rotating shifts; comparison of fatigue and risk associated with 42 and 56 hr/wk shifts; comparison of fatigue and risk associated with two different ways to do each word density; the Sleep, Activity, Fatigue, and Task Effectiveness model; practical software for fatigue assessment and management; and recommendations for reduced fatigue and risk, e.g., sleep hygiene, schedule selection, and individual sleep monitoring. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the NPRA National Safety conference and Exhibition (Grapevine, TX 5/12-13/2009).
