Abstract
Epidemiologic investigations continue to contribute to our understanding of the pathogenesis, optimal treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. Analytic methods have improved, and widely publicized investigations have resulted in a better understanding of epidemiology by both physicians and the general public.
