Abstract

Approaches to the midline third ventricle have presented significant problems in the past in view of the critical anatomic structures forming its borders. Technological advances have enabled the adaptation of both rigid and flexible endoscopy to the management of various pathologic processess involving the third ventricle. The authors describe the technique of endoscopic third ventriculostomy, a procedure used for treating some patients with symptomatic noncommunicating hydrocephalus without the need for a ventricular shunt.
