Abstract

The electrochemistry of glassy Cr//7//0B//3//0 and microcrystalline chromium has been studied relative to conventionally processed chromium. Alloy structure is shown to play a tertiary role in the properties of these homogeneous materials. In contrast, alloying with boron leads to a dramatic increase in corrosion resistance. This is due to the fact that Cr//7//0B//3//0, unlike pure chromium, cannot be activated in 1M H//2SO//4. The pH dependence on the electrochemical behavior of 80Ni2QP metallic glass in sulphate media has been studied using d. c. polarization and a. c. impedance measurements. The passivation process is seen to be influenced by factors like the secondary phase, the stable ion of phosphorus in solution and the pH, which in turn makes it a high field ionic migration process at low pH or an electron transfer process at high pH values.
