Abstract
Oral administration of a single dose (100 mg/kg body wt) of DDT to pigeons slightly decreased the uptake of glycine and leucine in the small intestine. Uptake of glucose did not change significantly under DDT toxicity. In contrast, activities of brush border enzymes such as sucrase, alkaline phosphatase and leucine aminopeptidase were significantly reduced in DDT fed birds; the activity of maltase remained unaffected. In vitro addition of amino did not alter the uptake of either glucose or mino acids nor did it influence the activity of any of the enzymes.
