Abstract
Prevalence of cardiovascular abnormalities in age-matched persons with multi-infarct dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and cognitively intact controls was measured. Both the multi-infarct and Alzheimer groups had statistically more documented myocardial infarctions, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, left bundle branch block, and atrial fibrillation than controls. Alzheimer's disease may affect the cardiovascular system through some central mechanism or by indirect means.
