Abstract

Buffalo (BUF) strain rats developed autoimmune thyroiditis spontaneously and the incidence was increased by administration of 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA). MCA did not alter the response of BUF rats to sheep red blood cells in terms of antibody titers or plaque-forming cells. However, hypersensitivity to BCG was reduced and thymus weight decreased significantly.
