Abstract

A mathematical model is described that can be used for the study of general human motion in three-dimensional space. The kinematics and kinetics are described in careful detail to illustrate the transformations necessary to bring known quantitates to the appropriate frame of reference. The procedure is used to study the intersegmental motion and loading during isokinetic exercise. Qualitative results are obtained which illustrate that 1) the duration of constant velocity is limited and 2) sizable forces and moments exist in planes not measured by the isokinetic device.
