Abstract

A method is presented for generating statistics (i. e. , mean, standard deviation, and probability of exceedance) of floor response spectra directly in terms of the ground response spectrum. The method accurately accounts for tuning, interaction, and non-classical damping, which are inherent characteristics of composite oscillator-structure systems. The computed spectra, in general, are considerably lower than conventional floor response spectra which ignore the interaction effect. Application to an example system verifies the accuracy of the method for both wide-band and narrow-band inputs and illustrates the importance of the interaction effect.
