Abstract
Snake venom proteins are a rich source of proteins designed by nature to target and alter many aspects of hemostasis. These proteins have high specificity toward coagulation factors and platelet receptors and are used to determine coagulation factor levels and the laboratory diagnosis of thrombophilias. Additionally, snake venom proteins are useful as tools in biochemistry and as prototypes to develop therapeutics. In this chapter, we review the most common applications of venom proteins in clinical pathology and in the advanced coagulation laboratory.
