Abstract

With increasing concern over the risks of environmental exposure in daily life, the need for more rigorous developmental neurotoxicity testing methodologies and routine risk assessment strategies has grown notably. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) from the regulator testing perspective. In addition to a thorough background on DNT, this chapter highlights the application of human-relevant, non-animal-based New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to developmental neurotoxicity testing, demonstrating the positive attitudes of the relevant agencies toward the future implementation of NAMs in regulatory testing of DNT.
