Abstract

A complete computerized obstetrical record has been developed and installed in high-risk obstetrical clinics. All patient encounters are recorded directly onto the system by the health-care providers. Laboratory data is automatically transferred over the network. Problems such as unreadable or missing charts and missing laboratory data have been eliminated. Other disadvantages such as provider resistance, slow performance, and lack of portability have surfaced and are discussed.
