During the latter half of 1971, clinical evaluation continued on eight upper-limb prosthesis External Power and Control (EXPAC) units controls. Type A with motor location within the above-elbow prosthesis, and Type B with the motor remote from the prosthesis, e. g. , on the amputee's belt were used. Of particular interest is a control transducer developed to use skin motion signals for cases where myoelectric signals are absent. A belt-mounted pack with myoelectric sensor for the use with an orthosis to obtain active joint motion in the presence of paralysis was also investigated.
