Abstract

The characteristics of people with urinary incontinence and the level of detection during hospitalization by the nursing staff were explored. Approximately 11% of 919 hospitalized elderly patients reported persistent incontinence. Nurses identified 23% as incontinent at discharge. Factors associated with identification of incontinent individuals included age, gender, and functional impariments.
