Cytokinesis is the process by which a mother cell divides into two daughter cells. The dividing cell undergoes a series of shape changes that are tightly regulated in space and time. This complex biological process involves intricate interplay between biochemistry and mechanics, which ensures equal segregation of the genetic material into the daughter cells. Cell division is important for normal cell functions, and cytokinesis errors can promote many diseases. Deciphering the mechanisms that regulate cytokinesis will further our understanding of cellular behavior and may lead to the development of novel therapies.
