Abstract
These highly selected cases give an indication that, for short control periods at least, cryotherapy for squamous cell cancers of the oral cavity may be useful. Cryotherapy may prove to have certain advantages over other modalities. It is safe, painless, and can be used without anesthesia on an outpatient basis. This alone is a great advantage, especially with the soaring costs of hospitalization. Cryotherapy for persistent oral cancers deserves more attention, and only by its use in human tumor systems within the head and neck will its actual effectiveness be determined.
