Corneal copper quantitation in Wilson's disease

Abstract

Diagnostic X-ray excitation spectrometry was used to measure in vivo the amount of copper in the corneas of seven patients known to suffer from hepatolenticular degeneration (Wilson's disease) and two healthy control subjects. Utilizing this method enabled us to distinguish between normal and abnormal eyes and to monitor the efficacy of treatment.
