Abstract

Reports of more than 500 cases of congenital annular bands have appeared in the literature. Several instances of osseous abnormality at the level of a congenital band have been described previously, ranging from mild bowing to complete discontinuity. Reports of discontinuity, often referred to as pseudarthrosis, have all involved the leg. In addition, a review of the English literature has failed to reveal a case of congenital bands affecting identical twins. We report a case of congenital annular bands in identical twins. One of the infants had discontinuity of the radius and ulna at the level of a congenital band around the forearm and a congenital amputation of the opposite forearm. Her twin had a band around the leg that caused minimum constriction.
