Abstract

The advantages of multimodality therapy are clearly illustrated in this patient with metastatic anaplastic adrenocortical carcinoma, complicated by myasthenia gravis, and treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. The concomitant administration of doxorubicin and radiotherapy resulted in marked tumor reduction followed by resection of a solitary pulmonary metastasis and definitive local surgery. A detailed review of the cytotoxic actions of doxorubicin and irradiation provides the background of the authors' rationale for this therapeutic combination.
